Engelbert Schmid pioneered the use of the eb alto descant and eb-alto descants are quickly overtaking the more familiar f-altos. Using an eb-alto as the high horn makes it easier to match the horns and allows the maker to build the lower horn with a full-length Bb mouthpipe, greatly enhancing the playing characteristics. The fingerings, (except for the F# and G), are the same as Bb horn fingerings. For more info on utilizing the eb-alto horn see Why Play a Horn in eb-alto?
This instrument has been played professionally and is about ten years old. It is in very good/excellent condition, showing some moderate wear (mostly on the levers) and no signs of ever having had any significant damage. It has a bell garland and, since it's made of gold brass, dezincification will never be an issue. We have completely cleaned and serviced it and replaced the rotor stops.
