Bob Osmun started repairing in 1967 while still a horn student at New England Conservatory. After apprenticing for eight years with William Tottle in Boston, he spent a year at Schilke Music Products in Chicago where he rebuilt Geyer and Schmidt horns under the tutelage of master craftsman Jerry Lechniuk. He also counts Walter Lawson and Richard Merewether as his mentors. He founded Osmun Brass Instruments (now Osmun Music) in 1976.
Bob has also served on the advisory council of the International Horn Society. When he is not at the repair bench or his desk he enjoys hiking, mountain biking, the internet, and brew pubs (not necessarily in that order). He has recently become a BMW fanatic. Bob is currently on the board of the American Horn Competition. You can email Bob directly at rosmun@osmun.com
Jim Becker (Repair Technician, Trumpet Specialist) is in his eighth year as a technician at Osmun Music. He studied trumpet under Dr. Albert Moore at SCSU, in his home town of St. Cloud, MN. In 1977 while still in High School, Jim began his repair experience working for St. James Instrument Repair Service. Later, Jim apprenticed under John Dameron in Boone, NC. Before coming to Osmun, Jim worked for Ward-Brodt Music in Madison WI., where he installed Axial Flow valves in the early 1980's.
As senior technician at Osmun, Jim's responsibilities include piston valve rebuilds and custom trumpet and trombone manufacturing. Outside of Osmun, Jim enjoys playing trumpet with the Metropolitan Wind Symphony and the Chapel Brass Quintet. You can email Jim Becker directly at jbecker@osmun.com
Jim Engele (Repair Technician, Horn Specialist) has been in the repair trade since 1993. Since then he has worked in Wisconsin, Denmark, Saskatchewan (where his family resides) and now Massachusetts from February of 1999. He just bought a house in Orange, MA where he commutes from daily. He is a Horn player and is currently first Horn with the Charles River Wind Ensemble. His expertise seems to focus increasingly on Horn repair. He is responsible for most of the Horn repairs lately although his experience is in the repair of all Brass and Woodwind instruments. He and his wife Jaqui two daughters, Holland and Anais. You can email Jim Engele directly at jengele@osmun.com
Tim Cote (Shop Manager, Trumpet Specialist) Tim has been playing in the trenches of the Boston music/musical theatre scene since he graduated from the New England Conservatory in 1997 where he studied with John McNeil. He has done everything from touring with "Hello Dolly" in 2000 to playing wedding receptions. Tim currently knows more about mouthpieces, mutes, cases, and trumpets than he ever possibly wanted and his knowledge of valve oil is actually quite scary. His other interests in no particular order are sushi, physical fitness, and Star Wars. You can email Tim directly at tcote@osmun.com
