Finke Horns at Osmun Music

Johannes Finke and his brother Christian are building fine horns in their workshop in Vlotho-Exter, Germany. Their double, descant, and triple horns are becoming increasingly well known for their big sound and excellent playability.

Finke Horns are the product of a unique philosophical approach to horn building; it is possible to preserve the tradition of style and tone while vastly improving the response, accuracy, intonation and flexibility of the instrument. The development of each model of Finke horns was based on the desire to address a particular style and to provide the player with an instrument that frees the player from the common limitations of that style.

Here is a brief description of each model. Single, full double and full triple horns with a selection of leadpipes to choose from are available. (All double horns have interchangeable leadpipes.) Finke horns are available in Yellow brass, Gold brass and German (Nickel) Silver. A particular feature of the Finke horns is the advanced composite valve construction, using a stainless steel spindle and a high-tech plastic rotor for light weight and exceptionally free and smooth movement. (Stainless steel rotors are a no-cost option.)

  • BRENDAN - A Geyer-model, named for the Irish Saint who discovered the New World in the 11th century, captures the richest integrity of tone in the fortissimo range without the harshness found in most Geyer copies. It is possible that players used to a far larger throat will find the Brendan the perfect balance of response and power. The Brendan is also very popular with the large, Kruspe style bell.

  • AMERICUS - our most popular instrument is perhaps our most unusual! How can an instrument with only a large throat provide the broadness of tone of the large Kruspe style instruments, yet be so easy to play ? The Americus has invaded the very bastion of the large, nickel horn playing school, providing the player with all the power and aggression demanded but with far superior accuracy. As with every Finke double horn, the various leadpipes available modify the tonal color and response of the instrument to suit the players taste.

Finke horns are made entirely by hand in the Finke Workshop in Vlotho-Exter, Germany. Delivery time, in most cases, is around 90-120 days. The price  includes screwbell, lacquer, two water keys, mechanical linkage, your choice of leadpipe,  and four year rotor warranty.
