Sonaré Trumpets at Osmun Music

Here at Osmun Music we've been customizing trumpets for years. In order to improve their instruments players have had us change bells and mouthpipes, add water keys, align valves, cryo treat, you name it.  It was just a matter of time till someone figured out that building a trumpet with these modifications at the factory would be a good idea. Imagine a Bach 180S-37 with a big, dark, controllable sound, good intonation, and well-nigh impeccable fit and finish. The Sonaré is that trumpet.

The Sonaré is built in Markneukirchen, Germany by JA Musik, a privately owned company that also makes B&S and Schertzer trumpets and Hoyer horns.  The workers at JA have years of experience and most are graduates of the German government's rigorous training system. The mouthpipe was designed and manufactured especially for this instrument by noted designer Cliff Blackburn.

One of the most notorious problems affecting trumpets is valve alignment. Virtually all mass-produced trumpets have discrepancies in the way the ports in the piston line up with the ports in the casing, both vertically and horizontally. This is due most often to the cumulative error in machining the many parts that go into a piston valve assembly. A difference of .003" can usually be felt by a sensitive player——we often find mis-alignments of .020" or more in top-of-the-line pro horns.

Sonaré's solution to this problem is unique. They've developed a patented valve guide called Microlock™ that enables them to accurately set the alignment of each individual valve before the horn leaves the factory. Microlock™ also makes it easy to readjust the valve alignment if it's ever necessary.

Cryogenic processing is a process we're often asked to perform. The science behind it still isn't entirely clear but most players feel that it makes the instrument feel more "broken in" and more stable. Sonaré is the only maker (of trumpets) that offers cryogenic processing on their new instruments.

Each Sonaré trumpet is carefully inspected and play tested before it leaves the factory. When it arrives in the US it's unpacked and inspected, play tested and adjusted by our own Jim Becker. Each instrument is about as perfect as it can be. In days gone by people used to think that they had to try a dozen trumpets to pick out the "good" one.  Well, variability is a function of quality control. If you build them the same they'll play the same. Naturally, if you have two to choose from, you may prefer one or the other. Nevertheless, Sonaré doesn't make any "dogs".

Cost Comparison:  This table shows the true cost of buying a professional trumpet. The Sonaré TRC900S, TRC800S and the Bach 180S-37 share almost identical specs and dimensions, weight, bell size, bore, etc. The after-market mouthpipe, valve alignment, etc., are often done by players seeking to get maximum performance from their instruments. Sonaré trumpets arrive from the factory with most of these modifications already done, saving you hundreds of dollars.
