Pre-Owned Instruments

All of our pre-owned instruments have been checked over, cleaned, and any necessary repairs have been done before the instrument is offered for sale (although some may warrant additional work to reach their maximum potential).  We try to evaluate instruments as accurately as possible but, naturally, such judgments are subjective.

The turnover rate of pre-owned instruments is very high. If you don't find exactly what you're looking for on the list call us. We'll keep a lookout and call you when we get the horn you want.

Ordering Instruments from Osmun Music

Before ordering, please review our Returns Policy . You can order directly from our web site with a credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Call the shop at 617.646.5756 or 800.223.7846, or email us to pay by  checks or  money order. (All checks must be in US funds drawn on a US bank.) Personal Checks can take up to ten days to clear.

Why We Charge a Restocking Fee

Please note that all pre-owned instruments are subject to a 5% re-stocking fee if returned. There are several reasons for this.  We do our best to accurately represent the instruments we sell. However, a very high percentage of our instruments are in the "classic" instrument category.  The people who buy these instruments are not bargain hunters: they are looking for very specific and subtle playing qualities. As a result, these instruments are frequently returned. Since each sales transaction incurs costs and credit card transaction fees, any instrument that is returned more than once becomes a very expensive proposition for us.  We could built these costs into the selling price but that would substantially increase the price of the instrument.

Selling Your Instrument Through Osmun Music

We sell many pre-owned instruments on consignment for our customers.  If you send us an instrument to consign, we will evaluate it as to physical condition, cleanliness, and value. We will contact you with our estimate of the potential resale value and the projected costs of repairs needed to put the horn into what we judge to be salable condition. (All the pre-owned instruments we sell are clean and in good playing condition. Renewable pads, bumpers, and valve stops have been replaced as needed.) After we have reached agreement on the selling price and any necessary repairs have been made we will offer the instrument for sale. Approximately eight to ten weeks after the instrument is sold you will receive a check for the selling price minus 25% percent commission and the cost of repairs.
