The Conn 8D is the classic American horn. For the past twenty years or so, ever since the production of Conn horns was moved from Elkhart to Abilene, most players have favored the older, Elkhart-built instruments.

      In recent years a dramatic changes have taken place at Conn (now a part of Conn-Selmer). Horn production has been relocated to Eastlake, Ohio. The quality of the individual components is high, but the assembly leaves something to be desired.

      Our 8D Prep package, which goes far beyond the standard prep, adds another dimension to the factory instrument. We add a level of refinement normally found only in instruments costing thousands more. Internal connections are carefully examined and adjusted and valve action is significantly enhanced. For the discriminating player in search of the best the Conn tradition has to offer the Osmun modified 8D is a logical choice.

The 8D Prep package includes.

• Beveling of all slide tubes to reduce turbulence.
• Resonance Enhancement™, our cryogenic stress relief treatment.
• Checking for and correcting any obstructions or constrictions at reachable solder joints, including the crucial bell-to-first branch connector.
• Checking and adjusting valve fit and action, including side and end play.
• Fitting stop arms individually to rotor shafts.
• Refitting the lever hinge tubes to the hinge rod to eliminate excess play.
• Checking and correcting the length of 3rd slides (typically too long).
• Numbering stop arms, stop plates, valve caps, and levers to insure accurate assembly of custom-fit parts.
• Careful visual alignment of the rotor ports (which are often different from the alignment marks) and installation of long-lasting synthetic rubber stops.
• Checking and adjusting slides for air-tightness and smooth pull.
• Installation of a water key on the mouthpipe (your choice of Amado or lever type).
• Careful final assembly and play testing to make sure your 8D is as perfect as we can make it.

Please note: Our 8D prep is a service designed for new horns. Horns in service for more than three months require a Chemical Cleaning in addition, which will be charged separately.
