Trumpet Services
Chemical Cleaning -
$125, (Silver plated or unlacquered instruments-$149)
- The difference between a medium-large bore and a large bore trumpet is
only .003". Many
trumpets have over twice this thickness of debris coating the interior surfaces. In
addition to making the horn feel tighter this material can interfere with valve and slide
action. A chemical cleaning removes deposits of old oil and grease, corrosion, and plaque
deposits from the interior of your instrument. After a thorough scrubbing out, the
instrument is re-assembled, replacing all the corks, felts, and bumpers and replacing
springs as needed. At the same time the technician makes a thorough examination of your
instrument and can find and correct small problems before they become major ones.
Instruments should be chemically cleaned yearly.
Precision Valve Alignment - $195.00
- This procedure involves measuring the position of the valve ports to +/-.002" and
adjusting the valve stroke to be as close to perfect as possible. Felt bumpers are
replaced with buna rubber and all adjustments are made by machining to ensure permanent
accuracy. Horizontal alignment is also checked and, if necessary, corrected.
Resonance Enhancement
-
$110.00
Trumpet Valve Rebuilding - Per set of three -
$525.00 ($175 a valve)
- Complete chemical cleaning, casings are internally honed to ensure roundness and
straightness. Pistons are nickel-plated and honed and then hand-lapped . The finished
valve job results in 90 to 95 percent air compression and superior fit. Elkhart-Bach
trumpets are rebuilt with oversize Monel pistons. Dimensional tolerances are held to
+/-.0001".
Jim Becker measuring valve casings for a snug fit.
Bach Piston Replacement - Per set of three - $895.00
- Piston Replacement is basically the same as valve
rebuilding except that the pistons are replaced with oversize pistons from the
manufacturer instead of being plated. (*Note-Due to increases in Genuine Bach
Part prices, the actual prices on Bach Valves may vary). This service does not
include a chemical cleaning.
Vent Piston Valve - $35.00
- Venting the valve allows the pressure in the closed slide to equalize so that, when you
press the valve, you don't get a puff of air that may upset the embouchure. Third valves
are normally vented. We don't recommend venting first valves since, without the suction of
the valve to hold the slide in place, they usually end up on the floor.
Round Out Bell Bow - $50.00
Gap Bell and Open Bow - $150.00
- A small gap, or chamber, can be created at the point where the bell meets the first
valve casing, improving the playing qualities of many instruments. We can advise you as to
whether this procedure will help your horn.
